Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 – Samsung CONFIRMS

Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be launched at the Unpacked event which will take place in less than two months. We have quite a lot of updates to talk about starting with dust resistance. There was a rumor a while ago that Samsung could offer dust resistance on the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. And today we have some more context on what this could be. Right now, Samsung offers an IPX8 water resistance rating on their foldables. X means it hasn’t been tested for dust.

Now, this tipster says both the Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 could offer IP58 dust and water-resistant rating. The number 5, in this case, indicates that testing revealed the phone is dust-protected. However, this doesn’t mean it is dust-tight though as in the case of IP68 – it offers some protection against dust but must not be held in conditions where dust will inhibit its functions. Given that the Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 have moving parts inside, this improvement is a big deal. And this is likely due to Samsung shifting to a new hinge mechanism that is thinner and lighter than the last one.

However, Samsung will not be the first one to offer limited dust ingress protection. Motorola offers an IP52 rating on their new 2023 Razr phones. 2 here denotes, the water-resistant rating isn’t so good. However, I would like to point out that this tipster doesn’t have a great track record. So you know what you need to do. In any case, if Motorola can offer a limited dust protection rating then Samsung can too. If they don’t then it would be an absolute shame.

Now coming to the title of the video, Samsung has officially confirmed that the Unpacked event for the new foldables will indeed take place earlier than usual in late July instead of mid-August. And it will take place in Soul, South Korea instead of the United States. Samsung didn’t reveal the exact date but it is rumored that it’s going to be on July 26th. Interestingly, the post on the official newsroom does not seem to exist anymore, indicating that it may have been set to go live before its intended time. But hey internet never forgets.

Next, we also have an update on the new colors for both foldables. Ross Young, the display analyst has already revealed the colors for the new phones. The Z Fold 5 will be sold in Black, Beige, and light blue. And the Z Flip 5 in Beige, Gray, light green, and Light pink. These are the higher-volume colors. The Z Fold 5 and FLip 5 will also be available in additional colors that will likely remain exclusive on Samsung’s website. Those colors are Blue and Platinum for the Z Fold 5 and Blue, Green, Platinum, and Yellow for the Z Flip 5. With that said, for all the latest updates on the Z Fold 5 and Flip 5
